MALAWI'S WEATHER FOR THE PAST TWO DAYS   

Thunderstorms and rain showers persisted over the north and lakeshore areas while cloudy conditions and few showers persisted over south and central Malawi.The chart below shows the rainfall reported on 19th and 20th April, 2017 respectively.  It can be observed that high rainfall amounts were reported mostly over the northern areas while just a few showers were reported over southern Malawi.

SOUTHERN AFRICA REGIONAL WEATHER ANALYSIS
           

Cool and moist south easterly air mass will influence the weather over the southern and central areas while a touch of the equatorial rain belt will continue to influence weather over the northern areas. 

 WEATHER FORECAST FOR MALAWI        

Therefore, Chiperoni weather should be expected over the southern and central areas while scattered thunderstorms and rain showers will continue over northern Malawi.Take note that temperatures will drop significantly over the weekend especially over southern and central areas. Mwera winds will be blowing over Lake Malawi, Malombe and Chilwa.

SHIRE VALLEY:

(Areas along Shire river, Lakes Chilwa and Chiuta Valleys)

Warm to hot and partly cloudy to cloudy with rain showers and drizzles. Mild to cool at night and chance of fog during early morning.

Forecast Temperatures: Ngabu Min. 16oC and Max 34oC

 

SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS:

(Shire highlands, Kirk Range up to Dedza)

Warm and partly cloudy to cloudy with rain showers and drizzles. Cool at night and chance of fog during early morning.

Forecast Temperatures: Blantyre Min.14oC and Max. 27oC

CENTRAL AREAS:

(Lilongwe, Mchinji, Dowa, Ntchisi, Kasungu and part of Mzimba District)

Warm and partly cloudy to cloudy with rain showers. Cool and locally cold at night and chance of fog during early morning.

Forecast Temperatures: Lilongwe Min12oC and Max.27oC

LAKESHORE AREAS:

(Areas along Lake Malawi)

Warm to hot and partly cloudy with scattered thundery showers. Mwera winds will be blowing over Lake Malawi.

 Be Alert as Mwera winds continue to blow over the lake

 Forecast Temperatures: Mangochi Min.16oC and Max.33oC

NORTHERN AREAS:

(All areas north of Mzimba)

Warm and partly cloudy with scattered thunderstorms and rain showers.

Chance of fog in highlands such as Chikangawa.

Forecast Temperatures: Mzuzu Min.16oC and Max.27oC

 
WINDS IN MOST AREAS:

Generally south easterly.
