MALAWI'S WEATHER FOR THE PAST TWO DAYS

Heavy rains were reported over few areas of the country. Notable rainfall (in mm) was reported  On 29th January 2012; Chintheche 19.5, Emfeni 12.3, Mzuni   10.0 and 8.9 at Nkhata Bay. On 30th January 2012 Chitipa 29.9 and 17.1 at Meru.

SOUTHERN AFRICA REGIONAL WEATHER ANALYSIS

 Congo air mass is expected to gradually affect more areas of Malawi in the next two days. The Inter Tropical convergence Zone (ITCZ) will develop over southern Malawi by Friday

 WEATHER FORECAST FOR MALAWI

Expect heavy rains particularly over central and northern Malawi gradually spreading into southern areas by Thursday. Winds will be light north westerly until Thursday becoming variable by Friday till end of the forecast period. Strong winds expected in stormy areas during the forecast period.

SHIRE VALLEY:

(Areas along Shire river, Lakes Chilwa and Chiuta Valleys)

Thunderstorms very likely by Friday till Sunday.

Highest temperature 35°C. Lowest temperatures 18°C
SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS:

(Shire highlands, Kirk Range up to Dedza)

Heavy rains likely by Thursday till Sunday.

Highest temperatures 28°C. Lowest temperatures 18°C. 
CENTRAL AREAS:

(Lilongwe, Mchinji, Dowa, Ntchisi, Kasungu and part of Mzimba District)

Scattered thunderstorms in the next five days.

Highest temperatures 28°C.Lowest temperatures 16°C.

LAKESHORE AREAS:

(Areas along Lake Malawi)

Expect heavy thunderstorms and rain showers during the forecast period.

Highest temperatures 33°C. Lowest temperatures 18°C.
NORTHERN AREAS:

(All areas north of Mzimba)

Heavy rains very likely during the forecast period .

Highest temperatures 28°C. Lowest temperatures 15°C.
WINDS IN MOST AREAS: Light northwesterly and gusty in thunderstorms areas.
